The Modern Language Association (MLA) created MLA format to serve as a guideline for formatting manuscripts and using the English language in writing. MLA format is most commonly used in writing within the liberal arts and humanities areas, but can be used elsewhere, too.
MLA is a system that can be used for referencing sources through parenthetical citations and Works Cited pages, which helps establish credibility and alleviates plagiarism.
